Happy Valentine’s Day!!
On a day like today, I think of a specific type of language…LOVE LANGUAGE!
Have you ever taken the love language quiz? Click HERE if you do not know what I mean or to take the quiz! I decided to share what my love language means for my SLP life…
What is my love language?
TOP: ACTS OF SERVICE
NEXT: WORDS OF AFFIRMATION
What does that mean? I love it when people I love (test was about my husband, sorry babe!) does acts of service (helps me out around the house without me asking and tells me nice things).
What does that say about SLP me?
I love hearing “let me do that for you” and kind, encouraging, and positive words are truly life-giving. I hate asking for help but I do admit, I can’t do it all! At work, I may not get everything done on my to do list and clearly I’m not getting a pat not the back from my administrators but who do I get this from MY STUDENTS! My students practicing, coming to speech on time and prepared, and them being excited about the activity is my love language!
I enjoy taking qualities that make me ME and turning it into how to make me a better SLP. OK so now I know what I like, how can I make me a better SLP? I know I like seeing the reactions from my students, so I’m going to keep striving to get them! I keep coming up with unique and motivating activities that keep them engaged. I love to find strategies that help them grasp difficult concepts. I am always browsing journal articles, social media, and more to find new products and ways to work with my students. I RARELY use a same activity year after year. WHY? I am always learning a new way to work on that skill. Each student learns differently and can benefit from a new strategy or technique. I am always trying to better myself so my students can benefit. That is what make me ME!
What kind of SLP are you? How does your love language reflect in your work?!
