00:01:42 Hallie: Hey, hey, and welcome to another episode of SLP Coffee Talk, my SLP friends. Today is not just any episode. It is my 300th episode. Yes, you've heard that correctly. 300. Can you believe it? 300 cups of coffee together, 300 jolts of inspiration, 300 jokes of the week, and I have not missed a single Monday yet. Yep. You can count on me every single Monday morning to show up in your earbuds or in your car, on your commute, ready to make your life a little bit easier. And of course, your speech therapy, a lot more fun.

00:02:24 Hallie: So I wanted to tell you a story in case you weren't even aware of when and how I started this podcast. So back in December of 2019, I was working with a business coach and I was at a retreat in San Diego in this beautiful Airbnb overlooking whatever it overlooks in San Diego. It was so long ago at this point. And I was talking about different ways to grow my business at the time and get more awareness and help more SLPs without having to travel. And I was loving doing professional development.

00:02:57 Hallie: And I was like, I was telling my business coach at the time, I like, you know, I got into the field, into this space online space blogging, but there's only so many blog posts I can write. And he was like, you should podcast. And I was like, say what? I was like, what was that? I don't know the first thing about podcasting. I don't have professional equipment. He goes, do you have a laptop? I'm like, yep. He goes, can you buy a cheap microphone on Amazon? I'm like, yep. He's like, start a podcast. I'm like, what am I going to talk about? He was like, you probably have things that you can motivate your SLPs with. And I'm like, I guess I could.

00:03:38 Hallie: And I was like, does anyone have a podcast team or management company that they can work with to help? I was like, I don't have time to edit or do any of the things. I'm working full time. And of course people in the room had a podcast company they work with. I was like, if they have availability for me to add me to their caseload, whatever, I will do it. So of course I email and of course they wrote back and said, yes, I can take you on. And my business coach was like, so when are you starting?

00:04:10 Hallie: This was December and I was like, I'll launch it February. He's like, okay. He's like, what are you going to call it? SLP Coffee Talk. And everyone in the room was like, yes, you have to do it. So I put it out there. I recorded my first three episodes and I don't even remember. It was February something. Had to have been 2020. I launched it. And of course we all know what happened in 2020. But I never skipped an episode. I went strong through 2020 and here I am. Now it's… I'm recording this in August, but you are listening to this in October and I have not missed one Monday yet. And here we are, episode 300.

00:04:58 Hallie: So that was a little bit of what got me to start, you know, who inspired me. Like I said, I've worked with many, many business coaches over the years and this was the first one that said, if you love presenting and helping SLPs, but you can't do so much because you're working full time and want to do more, podcasting is the way to go. And I put together episodes that I knew I would want to listen to. And of course, you guys are like me and you like the short and sweet episodes and you like the quick and all the different guests I've been bringing in. And here I am, still here standing strong.

00:05:32 Hallie: And since that first episode, I've had the honor of chatting with such amazing guests, like such incredible guests. This podcast has given me the opportunity to reach out to so many amazing educators, SLPs, product creators, authors, social workers, psychologists. I mean, so many different specialists and they've shared their passion, their expertise and their energy with all of us. And along with you, I've learned so, so much. It has made me a better SLP as well.

00:06:05 Hallie: I've had such amazing guests, such as Sarah Ward, who talked about executive functioning, Rachel Archambault, who reminded us and guided us about trauma-informed care and reminded us to approach our students with compassion. I've been inspired by Mia McDaniel, who shared her creative therapy ideas for school-based SLPs. Elizabeth Darby, who shared about reading SLP. Like, there's so many amazing, amazing guests that I've had on this show. It's impossible to name all of them. I can't even tell you how many I've had at this point because there's just so many.

00:06:36 Hallie: And all the guests that I've had on the show, it reminded me why I love being an SLP. It reminded me the impact we have on our students. It reminded me that we are all lifelong learners, that we have more to always learn. And it just inspired me to find more amazing guests for you guys. Because if I'm learning so much, I know that you are going to learn so much too. Each and every guest left me and I hopefully you with those golden nuggets, things that you can actually try in your therapy sessions the very next day.

00:07:12 Hallie: And of course, it hasn't been just some of those guests. I also had my SLP Elevate members on the show sharing how they were using SLP Elevate in their therapy room and what's working for them. And just SLPs just like you and me, they're doing amazing things each and every day. And of course, I did a bunch of solo episodes with you guys, where I've shared some seasonal ideas, some low prep therapy ideas, some free websites with you guys, some tips for working on [inaudible] vocabulary or working on inferencing or main idea or any other types of goals. Just think whatever I can think of to help motivate you to work with those older speech students, answering questions that I see coming in inside the SLP Elevate Facebook group, and of course, even just some good old fashioned motivation pep talks that we all need every once in a while to remind you that, hey, you've got this and I'm here for you.

00:08:07 Hallie: And I know that from your feedback that those bite-sized practical episodes are often just what you need to get through a tough week or even just to spark an idea when you need it most. And honestly, what makes this podcast so special is you. I keep coming back each and every week for you guys and you guys, how many of are listening and listening and listening. I'm like, I got to keep showing up to help inspire you guys. Like one SLP that left me a review. I especially love episode 67 about behavior management. I even use this episode for an assignment in my undergraduate course I teach.

00:08:45 Hallie: Or another testimonial that was left. This podcast is easy to fit into your busy day and gives you strategies you can put into use with your students today. You come away feeling like you've got this instead of one more thing to do. Another had said, Hallie focuses on specific topics and makes it functional quickly. Or, this is the best SLP podcast, relevant topics, awesome treatment, suggestions, and so engaging.

00:09:11 Hallie: When I read words like this, I want you to know I read each and every one of these that come in. And I know this podcast is more than just me talking. Because when I started this thing, I said, who is going to listen? Just like when I started my blog, Speech Time Fun, I'm like, who is going to read this? When I realize and hear from you guys, it pushes me to be even better and define even more amazing topics and amazing speakers. Okay? It's more than just me talking into this mic. It's a lifeline. It's a pep talk and practical tools for all SLPs like me and you.

00:09:44 Hallie: So here we are, episode 300, my friends. And I have to tell you, you guys rock. I know how much it matters to have this a little boost to start your week and I will not miss one moving forward as well. I know you're juggling large caseloads, tons of IEPs, paperwork, Medicaid billing, and students that might be rolling their eyes, but they need you most. And if this podcast can be that spark that helps you feel ready to take on the week, take on your day, then it's all worth it.

My students knew that I never gave homework because secondary students don't get homework. I always end my speech sessions with their one assignment is to stay out of trouble and that's how they knew speech is over. So I always send my episodes here. I remember to at least to say stay out of trouble, let you know the episode is over.
