185: Growth Mindset in Speech Therapy

Growth Mindset in Speech Therapy

With the new school year approaching, I decided that over the next few weeks, I’m going to be sharing all about different activities and ways you can start out the year with your speech students!

Building the routine and expectations right away with your students is essential for having the rest of the year go smoothly, so in this episode of SLP Coffee Talk, I’m sharing tips for establishing a growth mindset with our students right from the start.

In this episode, I share why we shouldn’t be so rushed to jump into working on goals. If we don't do this fundamental stuff at the beginning of the year, we'll never get to work on our goals with our students because they're not going to be motivated.

We don’t want them to shut down when things get tough! By building foundational trust and making sure they understand that they have the support system they need to achieve anything they set their mind to, everyone will have a much more successful year.

In This Episode You’ll Discover:

  • How we can shine the light on student’s strengths with growth mindset activities
  • Activities and ideas  to work on a growth mindset with your speech students
  • How to help our students create meaningful goals for themselves in speech
  • Tips for teaching your students the power of positive self-talk when faced with challenges

I hope this episode inspired you to focus on growth mindset activities at the beginning of the year and gave you some ideas on how to make it happen!
