The number one question I get asked is “how do I know what to work on?” when it comes to working with older speech students.
Do you ask yourself this question? Don’t be ashamed if you don’t know what to work on! This can be difficult to decide on, but it doesn’t have to be.
In this episode, I am helping you take a step back and decide how to make your goals and materials more specific and attainable for your older speech students. This will ultimately help you decide what you need to be working on with them.
I am providing examples and prompting you with the questions that you should be asking yourself, and I know it will help you plan your lessons and goals.
This is the last episode in my older students series, so if you haven’t listened to the rest of the episodes in this series, I highly recommend that you do! They are so so helpful.
In This Episode You’ll Discover:
- Questions to ask yourself to determine what to work on
- Why I am against using grade-level materials
- What I like to think about when I determine goals
- How to teach students how to advocate for themselves
- Why you shouldn’t assume that students attain information
I hope this episode motivates you and gives you some clarity. Remember, you don’t have to work on the same goal all year. You might have to start with some benchmark skills, and that is okay!
