As a speech-language pathologist, you have unique opportunities to create projects that can greatly benefit your students and enhance their learning experiences. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the process of applying for a special project on DonorsChoose to help you secure the funding you need to make your ideas a reality.

Step 1: Register or Log In to DonorsChoose

  • Visit the DonorsChoose website (
  • If you don't already have an account, click on “Sign Up” to create one. Fill in your personal and professional details.
  • If you have an existing account, simply log in using your credentials.


Step 2: Start a Project

  • Once you're logged in, click on the “Create a Project” button on the homepage.


Step 3: Describe Your Project

  • 1. Choose a clear and engaging project title that highlights the impact of your proposal.

My project aims to secure a subscription for high-quality speech and language development resources that are not only engaging but also highly beneficial for my students in grades 4-12. By obtaining this subscription, I intend to make a significant impact on the speech and language development of my students in several ways:

  • 1. Select the school where you'll be implementing the project.
  • 2. Ensure the school's information is accurate and up-to-date.

Step 6: Submit Your Project for Review

  • 1. Review your project details to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • 2. Click “Submit Project” when you're ready.
  • 3. DonorsChoose will review your project to ensure it complies with their guidelines and policies.

Step 7: Promote Your Project

  • 1. Share your project on social media, with friends and family, and within your school community to garner support.
  • 2. Encourage others to donate to your project and spread the word.


Step 8: Complete Your Project

  • Once your project is fully funded, you'll receive the materials and resources you requested.


Applying for a special project on DonorsChoose as a speech-language pathologist is not as complicated as it may seem.  You may have to get a few smaller projects funded first in order to unlock the ability to request a special project. By making those projects small, they can be fulfilled quickly and easily!
