181: Neurodiversity Affirming Approaches to Supporting Autistic Children with Adina Levy

Neurodiversity Affirming Approaches to Supporting Autistic Children with Adina Levy

Ready to start taking some neurodiversity-affirming approaches in your therapy sessions so that you can better support your autistic students?

In this episode of SLP Coffee Talk, I sat down with Adina Levy to talk about ways that we as SLPs can learn to fix the environment around our autistic students so that they can be successful and other neurodiversity-affirming strategies for therapy.

Adina is an Autistic DHDer, speech therapist, and professional educator who runs Play. Learn. Chat. and her podcast – Exploring Neurodiversity.

She loves intertwining her life’s stories and experiences with her clinical knowledge, and the lived experiences and perspectives of other neurodivergent people.

She lives in Sydney, Australia with her daughter and husband, and jumps in or stares at the ocean as often as possible.

Adina is dedicated to helping therapists, families, educators, teachers, and communities to understand neurodivergent children better and develop a deeper acceptance of children’s unique interests, passions, individual strengths, and support needs.

In This Episode You’ll Discover:

  • When Adina realized she needed to change the things she was doing to support her students
  • How to deal when parents or teachers aren’t aligned with neurodiversity-affirming approaches
  • Neurodiversity-affirming practices when it comes to assessments
  • Tips for writing goals for your neurodivergent students
  • Three aspects of changing the world around the child
  • Examples of goals and activities for autistic children
