Have you ever had those moments where you decided to throw out your current plan and go with what your students are talking about?! Hey…they are motivated and our ultimate goal is communication, so why not?!
My kids were talking about going to a car show that was in town over the weekend.
Then, one of them told the group about building model cars.
I realized, wow so many language goals can be addressed with this discussion!
I quickly found a You Tube video on making a model car. This one was SO cool and had fun music too!
While watching the video, we discussed the vocabulary and I pointed out the categories. We also tried predicting what was going to happen next! After the video, we retold what happened using my sequencing graphic organizers.
We then reviewed the vocabulary that I pointed out while watching the video. I had the kids group the vocabulary into categories.
How easy to make a worksheet on the fly?! My kids had so much fun with this lesson!!! I cannot wait to find more You Tube videos like this one with motivating topics! Have you ever done a lesson on the fly like this?!
