Giving each student a sheet based on their goal is one of my favorite ways to play games in mixed groups. (keep and reuse these for no-prep or create them quickly WITH your students so the know exactly what they're working on)

Let’s be honest about data collection.

It’s drilled into you in grad school that data is everything.

It’s how you make decisions and move your students along to meet their speech therapy goals.

It’s how you show progress and validate that you are in fact doing your job as an SLP.

But here’s where I’m going to rock the boat a little:
👉You don’t have to collect data during every single speech session to be an amazing SLP.

Your speech students need to been seen as more than just a note or number.
And…
When you aren’t focused on taking data, I bet you’ll actually hear and learn even more about your students.

So is data an important piece of the puzzle? Yes.
Do you need to collect it constantly? I’m solidly on Team No.

Can I be honest with you for a bit?⁣
Being an SLP at this point in the school year is not easy.

Your mind is going 100 miles a minute, you're already on your 7th schedule change, and more transfers keep showing up daily.

That's before you even plan for your therapy sessions or meet with your speech students.

It's a LOT.

BUT... take a deep breath and remember how cool your job really is. You get to choose your own curriculum that works best for your speech students. You get to play! You get to be a safe space where your speech students can see themselves succeed.

They need you. You're amazing. And don't you forget it.

Use the jeopardy board to work on any comprehension goal.

This is great for mixed groups.
If your students are targeting different comprehension skills, just change up the question.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel for every session. There is SO much inside SLP Elevate that you can pull out and make it work with any goal.

My point is… don’t get stuck on the resource title. 😉

This mantra is always in my head, and it’s made such a difference in my speech therapy sessions.

I make a point to spend the first few weeks of the school year intentionally building rapport.

With younger students, this may come naturally, but with older students… you’ve got to work for it.

You’ve got to be genuine in your approach and really let them know you care and are interested in them to break down the walls they put up.

Is it worth the time you spend?
