Want to incorporate the Winter Olympics in your speech room with your older students?

It can be a challenge to incorporate motivating themes into your speech room.  But you may be shocked to learn that our students are motivated by things going on around the world.  They love sports.  They love the snow.  They like competitions.  Whether or not they have heard of the Olympics, it is still something they can be motivated by.

Want to incorporate this theme but unsure how?

Start by building background knowledge!  You can use a KWL (know-want to know-learned) chart with your students to determine what they already know about the subject.  You can also use this video on You Tube from Colossal Questions that I turned into an Edpuzzle to work on inferential questions at the same time!  Hey it is a way to incorporate  nonfiction as well!

Then, you can dive deep into the different sports and activities that can be seen in the Winter Olympics.  You can use this cute fictional video to also work on inferential questions.  Hockey and figure skating discussed.  You can compare and contrast and have debates about them as well!
