I recently downloaded a free app, ClickySticky Superheroes. It inspired me to create a superhero reading or listening comprehension activity. SLPs are always trying to incorporate more literacy activities into their speech sessions due to demands of common core, state testing, and classroom expectations. Since I had to purchase LOTS of fun graphics, I am selling this activity pack on TpT!
What does this activity include?
- Three original stories about superheroes
- A graphic organizer for easy note taking to assist in recall
- A board game to use with any dice/spinner and game pawns
- Comprehension task cards to assess recall and comprehension that can be used with all 3 stories
- A fun worksheet that promotes creativity
All three stories have fun and motivating details for students to recall. I also incorporating irregular plurals and verbs which can be used to target those goals as well. You can print, laminate, and keep separately or bind them together for safe keeping.
I provided a graphic organizer that can be used as a worksheet or you can add it to a file folder that you use for your board game. This way students can work together to fill it out using dry erase markers. A benefit of keeping it with the board game is that it reminds students to look at their notes to help with recall.
You can choose to use my idea of gluing and laminating the board game onto a file folder or laminate separately. Up to you! You can also laminate with the story itself. Students can draw a task card, respond using learned strategies, then they can spin or roll dice to move along game board.
Last but not least, one way to assess true understanding is to apply knowledge. Therefore, I created a worksheet that makes students think and respond. They must decide which superpower they would like and why. You can create a list using a dry erase board of all the different types of superpowers. You can encourage students to make pro-con charts to help them decide which one they would prefer. Can they support their responses? Let the creativity flow! Then students work share their work which encourages turn taking and verbal expression.
I hope you enjoy my latest activity pack! You can use with the ClickySticky Superheroes app to reinforce concept and address more speech and language goals! Let me know what you think!! Click here to check it out!
