I recently posted a FREEBIE in my TpT store to let my loyal readers get a taste of what they are all about (kind of like a try before you buy sort of thing). I have had many questions about how I use them. Well today, I am going to share with you some videos of me using the freebie and how in one session, my student that is VERY routine has learned to quickly use my sentence strips and visuals to follow directions, answer questions, and expand utterance length.
Let's get down to it! Here's an example of how I use file folder activities in my speech room!
Below you you can see how I easily assembled the file folder by glueing the clown by cutting out the mouth on one side of the file folder and the other side I added the step by step directions page. I laminated the food items and placed them in front of my student. We have been using these file folder activities for a while now, so I know he can handle all 10 items in front of him. When we first began, I needed to only provide 2-4 item choices to minimize distraction and over stimulation.
Once my student mastered following the directions, identifying all of the food items, and other goals such as using food to work on prepositions, we worked on answering questions! On the other side of the file folder I glued the sentence strips that I provided with this activity. We drilled and drilled each food item to make sure he comprehended how to use the sentence strip to respond to my question.
Once he mastered that, I covered the answer! Check out how he did!
I am so proud of my student and his progress. I have been working with this kid for 3 years now and I just love using these file folder activities with him!
